If a keyword is super competitive then it may prove smarter to go after two (or more) less competitive keywords when you start looking at ‘time to return’ and ‘return on investment’.

What does ‘organic’ search results mean?
Organic search results are the non-paid listings (not AdWords / PPC) Google gives that are chosen by Google’s computers and influenced by SEO. Organic search results are also sometimes called ‘natural’ or even ‘algorithmic’ (but only by SEO geeks).
